Zero Waste Community Event Toolkit

The most important part of any event is the planning that takes place before the event. Event organizers like you have a great influence on the success of zero waste programs at events. Part of pre-event planning involves gaining an understanding of the types of waste your event will generate so that you can identify where you can reduce, reuse, recycle and compost waste. By working with vendors and controlling what attendees may bring to the event, you can influence the composition of your event’s waste stream.

Once you have an idea what your event’s waste stream will consist of, you must decide what can be collected for reuse, recycling and composting, and what can be substituted for less wasteful alternatives. The modules in this section will help you anticipate the types of wastes that your event typically generates and contemplate priority areas that will help reduce those wastes.
